Evaluation of the Front Cover of my Music Magazine

My front cover follows the layout of most music magazines, title at the top, image in the middle with text running across the middle of the page. I have added a few sell lines and at the bottom a list of other bands featured in the magazine. I have not challenged the usual forms and conventions of any other magazine, but have tried to make it in my own creative and personal style. The colour on the front cover is generally the same white, black and red, these colours are coherent. I used this to spotlight the image, making it seem like everybody's eyes are on the image and the lights will stay on him. This is the 'sweet spot' - the position that the eye falls to first.

My implied readers are those who listen to metal, rock or indie music, this is quite a wide social group, so would mean that the magazine would hopefully sell widely.

The type of media institution that would distribute my magazine would be a publishing company, for example Bauer publishing, which owns 230 magazines across 15 countries. The magazine would come out monthly and will cost £2.00 to buy. The pictures were taken by me and I did all the work on my computer at home, and not on the school computers, as they did not have the resources I needed, whilst my home computer did. For example, the fonts I used on my front cover were not available on the school's computer, and the photoshop at school is not as advanced as mine at home.

My target audience are between the ages of 15-35 and enjoy rock and metal music, this group is perfect as it has those who are older and listen to metal and rock from the 70's and 80's, and younger people who listen to the newer and up and coming rock and metal bands.

I addressed the audience by having bands that would interest the reader, for example at the bottom of the cover I have listed a few bands that are featured in the magazine. The bands that the older generation might like to read about, for example Metallica, Iron Maiden and Led Zeppelin, then there are a few newer bands that may interest the younger audience, like Trivium, Kamelot and Tenacious D.

I have not learned anything new about photoshop in lesson, but outside of lessons at home, my father has shown me many things that are extremely useful to make my front cover look genuine. Also my class was taken to the CLC in Mornington Cresent where we taught how to use photoshop for our magazines. With this help the final result of my magazine looks amazing.

  1. You need to use terminology. What mode of address did you choose? What about layout, sell lines etc.?

Where's the picture? This needs to be loaded in.
